Mathematics Class 3 - Computation Operations Notes
Comprehensive study notes for Class 3 - Computation Operations olympiad preparation

Computation Operations
Welcome to the chapter on Computation Operations for Class 3. In this chapter, you will learn about basic math operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. By the end of this chapter, you will be able to solve simple problems using these operations!
Introduction
Computation operations are ways to work with numbers. We use them to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers in our daily life.
Addition (+)
Addition means putting numbers together to find the total.
- Example: 5 + 3 = 8
- We use addition to count things and find totals.
Subtraction (-)
Subtraction means taking away from a number to find what is left.
- Example: 9 - 4 = 5
- We use subtraction to find the difference or what remains.
Multiplication (×)
Multiplication means adding the same number again and again.
- Example: 3 × 4 = 12 (3 added 4 times)
- We use multiplication to find the total in groups.
Division (÷)
Division means sharing or splitting a number into equal parts.
- Example: 12 ÷ 3 = 4
- We use division to find out how many in each group.
Fun Activity: Math in Daily Life
Count fruits at home, share them with your family, and see how addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division work!
Summary
- Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are basic computation operations.
- We use these operations to solve problems and do calculations.
Practice Questions
- What is 7 + 5?
- What is 15 - 6?
- What is 4 × 3?
- What is 20 ÷ 4?
- Write a real-life example of using multiplication.
Challenge Yourself
- Solve: 8 × 2 - 5 = ?
- Divide 18 apples equally among 6 friends. How many apples does each get?
Did You Know?
- The symbols +, -, ×, and ÷ are called operation signs.
- We use computation operations in shopping, cooking, and games!
