Adverbs are special words that tell us more about verbs (action words). They show how, when, or where something happens. Adverbs make your sentences clear and lively!

What are Adverbs?

Adverbs answer questions like: How? When? Where?

  • She sings sweetly. (How?)
  • He arrived early. (When?)
  • The cat sat here. (Where?)

Kinds of Adverbs

  • Adverbs of Manner: Tell how something happens. (quickly, slowly, happily)
  • Adverbs of Time: Tell when something happens. (now, yesterday, soon)
  • Adverbs of Place: Tell where something happens. (here, there, everywhere)

Using Adverbs in Sentences

Adverbs often come after the verb in a sentence.

  • The dog barked loudly.
  • She finished her homework quickly.
  • We will go to the park tomorrow.
