Simple Present and Past Tense
Welcome to the chapter on Simple Present and Past Tense for Class 2. In this chapter, you will learn how to talk about things that happen now (present) and things that happened before (past). By the end of this chapter, you will be able to use present and past tense correctly in sentences!
Introduction
Tenses tell us when something happens. The present tense is used for things happening now. The past tense is used for things that happened before.
Simple Present Tense
We use the simple present tense to talk about things we do every day or facts.
- I play in the park.
- She eats an apple.
- The sun rises in the east.
Simple Past Tense
We use the simple past tense to talk about things that happened before or yesterday.
- I played in the park.
- She ate an apple.
- The sun rose in the east.
How to Change Present to Past
- Most verbs add -ed in the past tense. (play → played, jump → jumped)
- Some verbs change completely. (eat → ate, go → went)
Fun Activity: Tense Time!
Say what you do every day (present tense). Then say what you did yesterday (past tense). Example: "I walk to school." "I walked to school yesterday."
