Adverbs and Adjectives
Welcome to the chapter on Adverbs and Adjectives for Class 4. In this chapter, you will learn what adverbs and adjectives are, how to use them in sentences, and how they make your writing more interesting and detailed. By the end of this chapter, you will be able to identify and use adverbs and adjectives correctly!
Introduction
Adjectives and adverbs are describing words. Adjectives describe nouns, while adverbs describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. Using them helps you write better sentences and express your ideas clearly.
What are Adjectives?
Adjectives are words that tell us more about nouns (people, places, animals, or things). They answer questions like: What kind? How many? Which one?
- The blue sky
- Three tall trees
- A happy child
What are Adverbs?
Adverbs are words that tell us more about verbs (actions), adjectives, or other adverbs. They answer questions like: How? When? Where? To what extent?
- She sings sweetly. (How?)
- He arrived early. (When?)
- The dog ran outside. (Where?)
- The movie was very interesting. (To what extent?)
How to Use Adjectives and Adverbs
- Adjectives usually come before the noun they describe: red apple, old house.
- Adverbs often come after the verb: walked slowly, spoke clearly.
- Some adverbs can also come before adjectives or other adverbs: very tall, quite quickly.
