Introduction

• an is used before words that begin with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).

• the is used for specific things or things we already know.
  Example: the sun, the school, the red ball

Prepositions

Prepositions are words that show the position or relationship of one thing to another.

• in – The cat is in the box.
• on – The book is on the table.
• under – The ball is under the chair.
• between – The dog is between the two trees.
• behind – The boy is behind the door.
• near – The school is near my house.
