Introduction

Numbers help us count things, tell how many objects there are, and compare groups. We use numbers every day when we count toys, books, or even steps!

1. What are Numbers?

Numbers are symbols we use to count things. The first ten numbers are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

2. Counting Objects

We count objects to know how many there are. For example, if you have 3 apples, you count: 1, 2, 3.

3. Comparing Numbers

  • If you have 5 pencils and your friend has 3 pencils, you have more pencils.
  • If you have 2 candies and your friend has 4 candies, you have less candies.
  • We use words like more, less, bigger, smaller to compare numbers.

4. Ordering Numbers

We can arrange numbers from smallest to biggest (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) or biggest to smallest (5, 4, 3, 2, 1).

5. Zero (0)

Zero means nothing. If you have 0 chocolates, you have none.

Count the number of apples, balls, or stars in your book and color them. Write the correct number next to each group.
