Time and Money
Welcome to the chapter on Time and Money for Class 2. In this chapter, you will learn how to read the clock, tell the time, and understand coins and notes. By the end of this chapter, you will be able to read simple times and solve problems using money!
Introduction
Time helps us know when things happen. Money helps us buy things we need. Learning about time and money is important for our daily life.
Reading the Clock
A clock has numbers from 1 to 12 and two hands:
- Hour hand: The short hand shows the hour.
- Minute hand: The long hand shows the minutes.
When the minute hand is at 12, we say "o'clock".
Example: If the hour hand is at 3 and the minute hand is at 12, it is 3 o'clock.
We can also read half past and quarter past times.
Example: If the hour hand is at 4 and the minute hand is at 6, it is half past 4.
Days, Weeks, and Months
- There are 7 days in a week.
- There are 12 months in a year.
- We use calendars to know the date and month.
Understanding Money
Money is used to buy things. We use coins and notes.
- Coins: ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10
- Notes: ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100, and more
Each coin and note has a value written on it. We can add coins and notes to make a bigger amount.
- ₹2 + ₹5 = ₹7
- ₹10 + ₹10 = ₹20
Using Money
We use money to buy things like toys, books, and food. When we buy something, we pay the shopkeeper the right amount.
Example: If a pencil costs ₹5 and you give ₹10, you get ₹5 back.
