Introduction
Conjunctions and determiners are important parts of English grammar. Conjunctions help us connect words, phrases, and sentences. Determiners help us specify nouns and make our meaning clear.
Conjunctions
Conjunctions are words that join two or more words, phrases, or sentences. They make our writing smoother and help us show relationships between ideas.
- Coordinating Conjunctions: and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet
- Subordinating Conjunctions: because, although, if, when, while, since, unless, until
- Correlative Conjunctions: either...or, neither...nor, both...and, not only...but also
Examples:
She wanted to go for a walk but it was raining.
You can have tea or coffee.
If you study hard, you will succeed.
Determiners
Determiners are words placed before nouns to clarify what the noun refers to. They help us talk about quantity, possession, specificity, and more.
- Articles: a, an, the
- Demonstratives: this, that, these, those
- Possessives: my, your, his, her, its, our, their
- Quantifiers: some, any, much, many, few, little, several, all, both
- Numbers: one, two, three, etc.
Examples:
Some students are absent today.
My book is on the table.
These apples are fresh.
The sun rises in the east.
