Input and Output Devices

Welcome to the chapter on Input and Output Devices for Class 4. In this chapter, you will learn about the devices that help us give instructions to the computer (input devices) and the devices that show us the results (output devices). By the end of this chapter, you will be able to name and use different input and output devices!

Introduction

Computers need our help to work. We use input devices to give instructions and output devices to see the results. Let’s learn about these important parts of a computer!

Input Devices

Input devices are used to enter data and instructions into the computer.

  • Keyboard: Used to type letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Mouse: Used to point, click, and select items on the screen.
  • Microphone: Used to record sound or give voice commands.
  • Scanner: Used to copy pictures or documents into the computer.
  • Webcam: Used to take photos or make video calls.

Output Devices

Output devices show us the results after the computer processes our instructions.

  • Monitor: Shows text, pictures, and videos on the screen.
  • Printer: Prints text and pictures on paper.
  • Speakers: Play sounds and music.
  • Projector: Shows computer screen on a big wall or screen.

Fun Activity: Find and Name!

Look around your computer lab or home. Can you find a keyboard, mouse, monitor, and speakers? Write their names and draw their pictures.
