Welcome to the chapter on Articles for Class 1. In this chapter, you will learn what articles are, how to use them in sentences, and why they are important in English. By the end of this chapter, you will be able to use "a", "an", and "the" correctly!
Introduction
Articles are small words that come before nouns. They help us talk about things in a clear way. The three articles in English are a, an, and the.
When to Use "a" and "an"
We use a before words that begin with a consonant sound.
- a cat
- a dog
- a ball
We use an before words that begin with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).
- an apple
- an egg
- an umbrella
When to Use "the"
We use the when we talk about a specific thing or something we already know.
- the sun
- the moon
- the red ball (when we know which ball)
Fun Activity: Find the Article!
Look at things around you and say their names with "a", "an", or "the". For example: a chair, an orange, the door.
