Introduction

Articles

There are three articles in English: a, an, and the.

• an is used before words that begin with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).
  Example: an apple, an umbrella
• the is used for specific things or when both the speaker and listener know what is being talked about.
  Example: the sun, the river

Prepositions

Prepositions are words that show the position, time, or direction of something. Common prepositions include: in, on, at, under, over, between, beside, with, to, from, for, by.

• The cat is under the table.
• She will arrive at 5 o'clock.
• The book is on the shelf.
• He walked to the park.
• The ball is between the boxes.
