Introduction

Voices and narration are important parts of English grammar. They help us express actions and report what someone said in different ways.

Active and Passive Voice

Active voice shows that the subject does the action.
Passive voice shows that the subject receives the action.

  • Active: The boy kicked the ball.
  • Passive: The ball was kicked by the boy.

Changing Active to Passive Voice

  • Identify the subject, verb, and object.
  • Move the object to the front.
  • Use the correct form of "be" + past participle.
  • Add "by" before the subject (if needed).

Example: She writes a letter. → A letter is written by her.

Direct and Indirect Speech

Direct speech repeats the exact words spoken.
Indirect speech reports what someone said without quoting their exact words.

  • Indirect: He said that he was going home.

Changing Direct to Indirect Speech

  • Remove quotation marks.
